In addition to weight loss studies there have been (and are currently) countless studies looking at the effects of this fatty acid on reducing inflammation, fighting cancer, and in the treatment of other conditions.</p>
<p>Ever since 2007, there has been an increase in use of CLA as a fat burner. This is due to the release of a meta-analysis (basically a review of several scientific studies) published in the May 2007 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition which concluded that 3.2g/d of CLA can induce moderate weight loss in humans. CLA is an attractive weight loss supplement and many people use conjugated linoleic acid as part of a fat loss supplement stack (i.e. a group of compounds and herbs taken together to maximize effects) because unlike many other weight loss supplements it is not a stimulant and you don&#39;t suffer the nasty side effects of getting the jitters, increased heart rate, or worse &#8211; increased blood pressure. This is especially as there are not many effective options for non-stimulant fat burners on the market.</p>
<p>Let&#39;s now look at two more studies that involve people taking supplemental CLA. The first study was again published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The researchers found that when people supplemented with 3.2 g/d of CLA (this is generally the recommended dosage for weight loss purposes) they burned more fat and more specifically they burned more fat when they slept!</p>
<p>This is true.</p>
<p>Not only did the subjects that took CLA burned more fat when they slept, the fat they burned was NOT fat they had recently eaten; it was actually stored body fat that they were burning. This study gets even better as the researchers reported that the individuals that took CLA had decreased urinary protein losses. In other words the CLA group had improved protein retention when they slept. These are really interesting findings. If I owned a supplement company that sold large dosages of CLA &#8211; my new headline would be &#8220;CLA &#8211; Scientifically Proven to Burn More Body Fat and Build Muscle while you SLEEP.&#8221;</p>
<p>So CLA can work for weight loss but are there any side effects? Again in 2007, another study was published that looked at the effects of CLA on weight loss, this time in obese people. In this study, the participants were given CLA dosages of 0, 3.2, or 6.4 grams/day. At the end of the study the group that received the 6.4 g/d of CLA experienced a significant increase in a compound called C &#8211; reactive protein or CRP for short. C &#8211; reactive protein is a protein that is released from your liver. It is commonly used in the medical field as a general marker of the level of inflammation in your body &#8211; higher CRP means more inflammation.</p>
<p>While there was an increase in CRP, it was truly not clinically significant as CRP levels remained below what is considered normal (Normal CRP levels are 3mg/dL). It is also important to see realize that the people in the study that had increased CRP as a result of taking a CLA supplement were taking 2x the &#39;recommended&#39; dose for weight loss and also that people that obese normally have higher CRP levels (this might have come into play here as well). The group that only took 3.2 grams per day did not have any increase in their CRP levels. <br />Based on the findings in the studies that I&#39;ve mentioned above and the review of studies from article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is seems that 3.2 g/d of CLA can be safely taken to boost weight loss.</p>
<p>The next question that you should ask is&#8230;</p>
<p>What do you do with these findings? At the moment not a whole lot&#8230; CLA is a nice add-on to a fat loss program but &#8220;add-on&#8221; is the key word. CLA is perfect for nutrient stacking as combing these effects with a supplement like green tea extract (which has also been shown to boost weight loss), increased non-exercise physical activity, and multiple meals throughout the day will surely boost your fat loss. If you aren&#39;t spot on with your nutrition, training with weights 3x per week, and doing 3 interval sessions per week then don&#39;t waste your time with CLA and focus on the more important things.</p>

<p>Did you know that not drinking enough water might be why you&#39;re on that dreaded weight loss plateau even though you&#39;re maintaining your diet&#39; Research suggests that a lot of Americans unknowingly suffer from mild, chronic dehydration, and that might be you they&#39;re talking about! I hope you read this article because it explains and makes sense the importance of water and the surprise impact to dieters. </p>
<p>Water is an essential ingredient for your weight loss. Water is required for a whole range of the body&#39;s biochemical processes, so lets look at what water does specially for dieters: </p>
<p>Your body needs to metabolize stored fat into energy so much so, that your body&#39;s metabolism can be slowed by even mild levels of dehydration. And the slower your metabolism, the slower your weight loss (and you become tired), until eventually your weight loss just grinds to a halt! You now have just hit the dreaded diet plateau. </p>
<p>Water is an essential to the processes that enables your muscles to contract. So water helps maintain muscle tone. Better muscle tone means a better looking body, and isn&#39;t that what dieting and weight loss is about? </p>
<p>There&#39;s help for that sagging skin. Water also helps to prevent the sagging skin that often follows weight loss water plumps the skin cells, giving the skin a younger and healthier look. </p>
<p>Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has a lots of waste to get rid of because of all that fat. So enough water is essential to your health while dieting. </p>
<p>Not a pretty picture but once you get your water in balance, you reach the breakthrough point , a concept pioneered by Dr. Peter Lindner, a California obesity expert. He says, Once you&#39;ve reached the breakthrough point, fluid retention eases, the liver and endocrine system start to function more effectively, you will start to regain your natural thirst and your hunger cravings will be significantly reduced. And so the end result of reaching and sustaining the breakthrough point in your water balance is that your body is able to metabolize fat more effectively. </p>
<p>How much water should you drink daily to be healthy&#39; First, a couple of basic principles: </p>
<p>1) The simplest way to tell if you are drinking enough water is check the color of your urine: It should be clear or a very pale yellow in color. (but note that some supplements and medications may also affect your urine color). </p>
<p>2) Get in to the habit of drinking regular and adequate amounts of water. Never wait to drink until you&#39;re thirsty, because if you&#39;re feeling thirsty, dehydration has already set in! </p>
<p>Here&#39;s another important thing to remember; if you&#39;re overweight, you&#39;ll need an extra glass of water for each 25 pounds overweight, because the extra weight creates extra metabolic demand. </p>
<p>How can you drink so much water&#39; Weight loss experts secrets say drink 3 glasses of water with every meal. That&#39;s 3 glasses with breakfast, 3 with lunch, and 3 with dinner. Plus, of course, additional regular water between meals when you&#39;re exercising or when its hot. That sure makes it doable, doesn&#39;t it? </p>
<p>So if you&#39;re dieting, stalled on a weight loss plateau, or suffering some of the classic symptoms of dehydration, do, above everything else, be sure that you have an adequate water intake. It could be the missing ingredient in your diet regime and as easy to fix as drinking 3 glasses of water with each meal. </p>
<p>Remember that water is a natural appetite suppressant. Use it to your advantage. If you&#39;re out shopping, take a bottle of water with you. If you feel like a late night snack, either go to bed or drink a glass of water. If you want a change, add a little bit of lemon juice into a glass of water. I find, instantly, my desire to eat is gone. Give it a try. </p>

<p>One of the most surprising benefits I&#8217;ve discovered for being engaged to a gal from the Middle East, other than the vast cultural exchange, is the cooking.</p>
<p>Oh, yes ladies&#8230; my gal COOKS!</p>
<p>Which is good since I am a lousy cook. : )</p>
<p>Hanna enjoys it&#8230; and she brings a Middle Eastern flair to some really boring fitness/bodybuilding foods that I want to share with you today.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s just two quick tips from Hanna on making the ultimate in &#8220;boring&#8221; foods &#8212; egg whites and tuna (yuck) &#8212; taste incredible.</p>

<p>TIP 1:<br />
Lively Egg White Omelette</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s face facts:  Egg whites suck. At least that&#8217;s what I USED to think until Hanna decided to experiment with my morning omelette.</p>
<p>Now I eat this stuff like it was candy.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what she does:</p>
<p>1. She cooks the veggies separate from the egg whites. You&#8217;d think this would be common sense, but I never did it and I&#8217;ve seen a lot of people just toss it all in together.</p>
<p>2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil with 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil to the veggies. This alone improved the taste tremendously.</p>
<p>3. Add 1/2 egg yolk to the veggies after cooking for 1 minute. This, again, is primarily for taste.</p>
<p>4. Garlic!  If you love garlic, here&#8217;s your chance. Garlic ROCKS in egg white omelets.</p>
<p>5. Use Pam or another non-stick spray for the egg whites and cook them like you would a normal omelette. Then pour the almost-cooked veggies in the middle. Do the omelette dance.</p>
<p>6. Here&#8217;s the SECRET SAUCE&#8230; literally. This will sound nuts until you try it:</p>
<p><em>Shrimp Cocktail Sauce</em></p>
<p>Okay&#8230; Hanna&#8217;s bright, but this was an accident. She thought it was salsa. But I&#8217;ve NEVER gone back to salsa after stumbling on this incredible treat! I have no idea why it tastes so good, but it makes the omelette.</p>
<p>Try these tips and see if your egg white omelette doesn&#8217;t become your favorite meal of the day.</p>
<p><strong>TIP 2:<br />
Canned Tuna Extraordinaire</strong></p>
<p>Again, I have the lovely Hanna to thank for this.</p>
<p>Like egg whites, I used to HATE canned tuna. Now, again, I can eat this every night without complaint.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what she does:</p>
<p>She cooks the veggies the same way as in the omelette above and then pours the tuna from the can into a skillet. That&#8217;s IT.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve never had &#8220;tuna ala skillet&#8221; before&#8230; and I have no clue why this tastes so smooth and delicious, but it does.</p>
<p>If you hate canned tuna for being dry or tasteless, try this. You&#8217;ll never go back.</p>
